History Of The Street Champ

David "RED EYE" Baldi was born in the Jamaica Queens section of New York City in the summer of 1979. At a young age he started memorizing songs that he heard off the radio, and at the age of 11 he penned his first verse.  Influenced by the likes of Slick Rick, Kool G Rap & EPMD, young Red Eye started rapping as a glorified hobby. After relocating with his family to Orlando, Florida in 1993, Red Eye came to the ultimate conclusion that he was destined to become an Emcee.  Further influenced by the new wave of real hip-hop dropping at that point in time, he started his career with the group "Original Sonz".   After decent success in the local Orlando Hip-Hop scene, the group went about their separate ways due to creative differences. Shortly after, Red Eye was sentenced to four years for distributing drugs. While incarcerated, Red-Eye kept his skills sharp by battling any competitor claiming to have skills. Two years into his bid he retired undefeated. Annoyed with the direction that hip-hop was heading, he vowed to make a difference and bring that Grimey 90's New York flavor of hip-hop back to the streets where it belonged. Upon his release, he began recording with his long-time producer and friend, Henny-O. The duo traveled to New York , where he maintains dual residency and collaborated with legends such as Craig G of the Juice Crew, El Da Sensei of the Artifacts, as well as the hottest up and comers like Sha Stimuli (Unsigned Hype - The Source), A.Pinks (Unsigned Hype - The Source), Flame (Unsigned Hype - The Source), Curtains (Show & Prove -XXL), Saj Supreme (Show & Prove - XXL) & Pop-N-Bulletz (On The Radar - The Source). Co-signed by DJ Vlad, Red Eye's much anticipated debut mixtape, hosted by MySonne, was released June 27th to rave reviews. He was also featured on the second installment of DJ Green Lantern's Myspace Mixtapes "The Monster Mash". Currently working on several projects, including a collaborative IP with El Da Sensei due to be released late '08.  Crowned the Street Champ by his peers, the future looks bright for the emerging emcee.

Feedback:

"Red Eye reminds me of when I use to love hip hop.  When he spits he  paints a picture where I can visualize what he's saying.  He brings that real hip hop back that I use to love to listen to and stands out from the pack of today's hip hop artists." (DJ Jesse Jazz - full impact all Starz/bum Squad DJZ / Hood DJS).

"The new mixtape is a banger...nice to hear real lyrical skills on some grimmey beats!  Red Eye is on an upraise. Keep doing it!" (DJ CHINO - 102JAMZ WJHM. ORLANDO / BUM SQUAD DJS / SHADYVILLE DJS / THE CORE DJS / SHAKEDOWN RECORDS ).

Hosted by Dj Vlad & and problem child Mysonne. The New York born, Floridian Red Eye gives us " The Street Champ " , roughly an 18 song mixtape boasting a few key guest appearances. From the likes of the legendary DJS Kool Dj, Red Alert and Craig G to the recent mixtape staples Sha Stimuli and Curtains.  In the industry having someone co-sign for you is a must, so when you see Kid Capri, Rah Digga and O.C. co-sign for an individual you might want to take note. From the first lyric all throughout the mixtape Red Eye maintains that raw mid 90's feel but at the same time stays very relevant to today's world.  A couple of standout tracks are the emotionally driven closer "Soul Mate" to the correctional facility influenced "Wall Talk" another standout track is "Rekonize," where Brooklyn artists Bekay and Frank B. come to lend a couple of 16s.  All three MCs do their thing, but Bekay steals the show with his slick wordplay. (DJ ADG - Never A Flaw Productions/Full Impact DJs/Hood DJs).

REVIEW OF RED EYE’s ALBUM « THE STREET CHAMP »
by DJ MODESTY (THE REAL HIP HOP SHOW)

I receive a lot of albums and mixtapes every days for the real hip hop show. It was a good surprise when I received some of these one:  THE STREET CHAMP !!!  I’m a fan of queens music and I like the original beats of Primo, alchemist, pete rock… I like the grimey sounds and the real hip hop vibe…All these elements are inside this project. Many positives points : the first one is that it’s an exclusive street album with some perfect & originals productions of HENNYO, a producer that I could add in my favourites. The beats & flow are fat and perfect for the people who like the thug style but it’s a dynamic music who is perfect also for hip hop clubs….It’ll be so hard to chose a favourite song in this album….The RED EYE style is so strong, this man got a killing flow and dope lyrics, themes… I know that we could see his name on the top of the rap game very soon….The plus is the guests : El da sensei, craig g, Bekay, Killa sha & much more real hip hop mc’s for some Explosives collaborations….

What could I say more about this great street album ? so strong, eclectic by the choice of themes & musics. It’s a cd that you could listen during all the day, week, month and through the years as a Hip Hop Classic.  The alchemy is perfect between Red eye and hennyo and I hope that it’s just the beginning of a long series. KEEP YOUR EYES ON IT.
